為什么哈爾濱工業大學的英文翻譯里用了一個“institute”而沒用“university”呢？

一般而言，國內的大學一般就叫大學，除非是理工科的有時叫學院，而從國內的文化背景來說，“大學”的級別較“學院”等為高

這種情況在西方國家正相反

University一般是指綜合性大學，專門的學校稱買粉絲llege，理工科的專門學校稱institute，比如著名的MIT麻省理工學院

在西方國家，“大學”、“學院”等是在一個水平線上的，甚至于“大學”還不如“學院”，因為“學院”出來的學生在職業技能方面要明顯高于“大學”畢業生

可是到了國內，如果不稱“大學”好像就低人一等似的

所以，像哈工大，符合英文意思的應該是institute，可是到中文里就成了“大學”

一、中國畫的歷史及分類 First, the history of Chinese painting and classification
