In the long history of human being, books have played an important part in municating knowledge. And even today, the situation is still so. Each year, millions of books are published in the world. Knowledge changes our lives. If a learned person wants to express some new idea, probably he will choose to write a book. 圣誕節的英文是Xmas。

Christmas會簡單縮寫成Xmas，一些說法是由于在現代的西方國家，圣誕節已經從一個宗教節日慢慢演變成非教徒也過的公共節日。非教徒人士為了區分自己與天主基督等教徒過節的目的，就發明了Xmas這個詞，它的意義就在于表示自己并非教徒。

實際上，早在中世紀時，就有教士僧侶在抄寫經卷的時候用過Xmas這個縮寫，這個詞在16世紀時就已經開始廣泛使用了，并不是現代人發明的。

Christmas縮寫成Xmas的真實原因是最早的圣經《新約》是用希臘語編著的，Christ一詞在古希臘語中開頭的字母是Chi，而希臘字母Chi的寫法，和英語字母表中的X相似。

Xmas 就是單純 Christmas 的簡寫，Christ 這個詞來自古希臘語的 Khrīstos，希臘字母寫作 Χριστός （Χ = Ch, ρ = r ），所以從古自今一直有人把 Christ 簡寫成‎ Χρ ，古羅馬的康斯坦丁大帝把 Χ 和 ρ 做成標志 ☧代表耶穌。這個標志叫 Labarum 。
