完整的句子是這樣的：The aim of the cruise was to awaken an interest in foreign cultures and （awaken）an understanding of foreign cultures. 

為什么省略，可以參考中文：此次巡游旨在喚起我們對外國文化的興趣和對外國文化的理解。重復了不太順暢對不對，所以就省略了，英語也是一樣。
