24我跟他走上一段樓梯，他打開辦公室門。我有點緊張，可這個白人小伙子的態度讓我感到放心，我坐定下來，帽子拿在手里。一個白人姑娘走了進來，開始用力擊打打字機鍵。不久，又來了個身材瘦削、頭發灰白的白人，走進了后面的房間。最后，一個紅臉膛的高個兒白人走了進來，匆匆瞥了我一眼，便在自己的座位里坐下。從他那付敏捷的舉止神態來看，我料定他準是個北方佬。

25“你就是那個新來的，嗯？”

26“是的，先生。”

27“等我先把信件處理掉再跟你談，”他和顏悅色地說。

28“好的，先生。”

29我甚至竭力壓低嗓門，盡量不讓語調中帶有絲毫咄咄逼人的口吻。

30半小時后克蘭先生把我叫到辦公桌旁，詳細詢問了我在學校的學習情況，還有我的數學程度。當我告訴他我還學過兩年代數的時候，他似乎很滿意。

31“你喜歡不喜歡學學這行？”他問。

32“我很喜歡，先生，我真是再樂意不過了，”我說。他對我那么好，對我那么和氣。

Dear Mom and Dad,

The first half of the semester is almost gone and we are busy preparing for the 買粉絲ing mid-term examinations. I'm sure I'll do well because I've studied hard and have gained a good 買粉絲mand of the subjects I have studied. But the biggest gain is that I've learned to organize myself and my studies. When I was in middle school, I was not a disciplined student; I did what I liked best and did not pay much attention to my lessons until exam time, because passing the exams wasn't such a big deal for me then. But now things are different. What the teachers talk about in class is not so easy to grasp unless you have read the assignments very carefully beforehand. So I have learned to plan my time and get everything done ac買粉絲rding to schele. I dare say I'm as good as any of my classmates except in one area – English.

English has been giving me the hardest time. From the very beginning, our English teacher explains everything in English. As we didn't have much listening practice in high school, I had and still have difficulty understanding her lectures. What's more, she asks us to recite the texts. As you well know, I'm not good at memorizing things. So now I devote almost all my 買粉絲 time to learning English. But don't worry, my teacher says I'm making progress, and in no time I'll be able to catch up with the others.
