3 動名詞作賓語和不定式作賓語的比較

有些及物動詞后面既可以接動名詞作賓語，又可以接不定式作賓語，其中不少動詞還會引起意思上的變化。

⑴ begin, start等：

在begin, start, hate, like, love, prefer等動詞后，用動名詞或不定式作賓語，意思上幾乎沒有什么區別。例如：

The teacher said, “You begin writing now,” and the children began to write. 老師說，“你們現在就開始寫吧。”于是孩子們就開始寫了。

Will you start reading / to read? 你開始讀好嗎？

So you prefer living / to live abroad? 所以你寧愿住在國外是嗎？

有時，like后接動名詞時，表示經常性的愛好；后接不定式時，表示一次性的或獨特的愛好。例如：

I like traveling and, especially, to travel with friends. 我喜歡旅行，特別是和朋友們一起旅行。

He doesn’t like reading, but he likes to read newspapers in bed. 他不喜歡讀書，但是他喜歡在床上看報。

⑵ forget, remember等：

在forget, remember后，用動名詞作賓語表示已做過的事情，用不定式表示要去做的事情。例如：

I remember posting the letter. 我記得把信寄走了。

Remember to post the letter. 別忘了把信寄走。

I will never forget seeing him for the first time. 我永遠不會忘記首次見到他的情景。

He forgot which way to go. 他忘了該走哪一條道。

⑶ stop, go on等：

在stop, go on后，用動名詞作賓語表示“（停止或繼續）做同一件事”，用不定式表示“（停下來或接下去）做另一件事”。例如：

They stopped talking. 他們停止了談話。

They stopped to talk. 他們（停止原來做的事）開始談話。

The teacher asked us to go on reading. 老師要我們繼續讀書。

The teacher asked us to go on to read. 老師要我們接下去讀書。

⑷ need, want等：

在need, want后，用動名詞作賓語具有被動意義，和用被動態的不定式在意義上一樣。例如：

This room needs cleaning / to be cleaned. 這間房間需要打掃。

The old watch wants repairing / to be repaired. 這塊舊表需要修理。
